We are pleased to announce that our Spring 2010 meeting will be held at Queens' College Cambridge which was where, in October 1558, Edward de Vere began his university education.

We have yet to finalise the full programme for the day, but we can confirm the following:

  • Patrick O'Brien to welcome us to his college where he performed in Shakespearean Comedy
  • A tour of Queens' College Library with a chance to see some of the college where Edward de Vere matriculated.
  • Professor Michael Egan, the recently appointed editor of the Oxfordian talking about Thomas of Woodstock a play by Shakespeare in Manuscript
  • Lee Tudor-Pole on The Statute of Apparel; who could wear what in Elizabethan England
  • Kevin Gilvary on why Shakespeare's earliest quarto, The First Part of the Contention, probably dates to the 1570s

Refreshments/Lunch
These will not be provided by the DVS. Tea, coffee and snacks are available in the Grads cafeteria on the second floor of the Hicks Room and lunch is available at very reasonable prices in the Main Hall dining room just upstairs from the Hicks Room.

Getting there
From Cambridge Railway Station, take bus (numbers 1, 3 and 7) to the city centre and the Cambrigde University Centre is about 400 yards from here. There is no parking nearby and those travelling by car should find a suitable park and ride.
